BOTTOM TUESDAYS — A local man has entered his third day of dignified suffering after a brief exchange on a geosocial networking application ended not with closure, but with what legal experts are calling "the digital equivalent of being left at the servo."
Marcus T., 29, of Newtown, told The Bottom Tuesdays Advocate that he responded to a profile listed as "visiting, chill, no drama" with what he believed was a thoughtful opening message referencing mutual interests, including house music and "not being on here much lol."
At 2:14am on Sunday, the other party replied with a single thumbs-up emoji. Marcus interpreted this as encouragement. He has not heard from them since, despite logging in "just to check the weather" on fourteen separate occasions.
"I'm not asking for marriage. I'm asking for the bare minimum of human decency — or at least a 'haha yeah' so I can move on with my life," Marcus said from his kitchen, where a neglected meal prep container has become a monument to hope.
A spokesperson for the application, reached via an automated support portal that suggested he "try updating your photos," declined to comment on whether the platform would issue a formal apology. Industry observers note that Grindr has never apologised to anyone, including several federal inquiries.
Marcus's housemate, Priya, confirmed she has heard the full timeline twice, once with diagrams. "He's fine. He's just doing that thing where he acts fine," she said.
Community response
The Inner West Support Group for Men Who Peak in Typing (IWSGMWPT) has offered Marcus a complimentary session with a therapist who specialises in attachment styles and men who own too many candles.
Local elder and part-time DJ Uncle Terry, 54, advised Marcus to "go touch grass, then go touch the dancefloor at a venue that still has a smoking area." Marcus said he would consider it after one more refresh.
The Bottom Tuesdays Advocate will continue to follow this story until Marcus deletes the app for forty-eight hours or matches with someone who uses full sentences, whichever comes first.
